Dubai law firm BS Lawyers & Legal Consultants published an updated guide in October 2026 on recovering investment money in Dubai. The guide is written for investors and lenders in the USA, the UK and Europe whose profit payments from UAE companies, partnerships or individual businesses have stopped, a situation the firm reports as the most common reason overseas creditors contacted it during 2026.

The guide describes a recurring sequence. Money is invested with a UAE business, profit is paid for two or three years, and the payments then slow and stop. It explains that at this point the unpaid amount is treated as a debt under UAE law and sets out the legal routes that apply.

Evidence in these cases often goes beyond a contract. Bank transfer receipts show that money reached the recipient, and the UAE Evidence Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 35 of 2022) allows WhatsApp and email messages to be relied on when their authenticity is established. A cheque returned unpaid is an executory instrument under the Commercial Transactions Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2022), which allows it to proceed directly to execution.

The firm puts typical durations at about two to three months for execution of a returned cheque and six to nine months for a claim without a cheque. Once judgment is issued against a debtor owing AED 10,000 or more, the creditor may request a travel ban under the Civil Procedure Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 42 of 2022).

There are limits. A debtor who has left the UAE permanently, with no business, property or bank accounts remaining there, may leave few assets to enforce against. Agreements that name the Dubai International Financial Centre as the forum follow a separate legal regime, and some agreements require arbitration. Since 2 January 2023, most claims between traders must be brought within five years instead of ten, and where no interest rate was agreed, legal interest is capped at nine percent a year.

The guide also addresses whether invested capital can be claimed after profit has already been paid, how interest is calculated, and which time limits apply to older arrangements. It refers to UAE federal laws by name and number throughout and was reviewed by a lawyer at the firm before publication.
