Ericsson introduces the Cradlepoint R2400 for connected vehicle operations
Ericsson has introduced the Cradlepoint R2400, an in-vehicle 5G router with dual-SIM connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 and edge AI, with availability expected in the second quarter of 2026.

BARCELONA, Spain — Ericsson announced the Cradlepoint R2400 on February 24, 2026, ahead of Mobile World Congress 2026, introducing an in-vehicle 5G router intended for public safety agencies, mass-transit operators and commercial fleets. The company said the product is expected to become available in the second quarter of 2026.
The R2400 is designed for organizations that operate connected systems in moving vehicles and require access to cellular networks while travelling across different coverage areas.
One of the product's principal features is dual-SIM connectivity. According to Ericsson, the router can maintain simultaneous connections to two 5G carriers and use intelligent traffic steering to manage connectivity between them.
The approach is intended to address situations in which vehicles move through areas where network conditions and carrier coverage vary. Public-safety vehicles, buses and commercial fleets can depend on network connections for operational communications and connected applications while in service.
The router also incorporates Wi-Fi 7 for wireless connections between the cellular network and equipment operating within a vehicle.
Ericsson has included positioning capabilities in the R2400, allowing the equipment to support applications requiring vehicle-location information. The company also identified edge AI as part of the platform's functionality.
The intended applications include public safety, mass transit and commercial fleet operations. These environments present networking requirements that differ from those associated with fixed routers installed in homes or offices because the equipment must operate while the vehicle changes location and network conditions.
For public-safety organizations, vehicle connectivity can support communications and connected equipment used by personnel in the field. Transit operators can use cellular connectivity for onboard and operational systems. Commercial fleet operators can similarly connect vehicles with communications, positioning and fleet-management applications.
The R2400 forms part of Ericsson's Cradlepoint portfolio for enterprise and wireless WAN connectivity. Its introduction adds an in-vehicle platform incorporating current cellular and Wi-Fi technologies to the company's networking equipment.
The timing of the announcement also places the product among telecommunications and enterprise-networking developments presented around Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.
Ericsson has stated that the Cradlepoint R2400 is expected to be available during the second quarter of 2026. Organizations evaluating the equipment will therefore have a defined availability period rather than an unspecified future product roadmap.
The announcement reflects a specific application of 5G networking equipment in transportation, where connectivity requirements include mobility, changing carrier conditions and support for multiple connected systems within a vehicle.
